PROJECT: Mixed-Use Commercial 40 kW Array
Designed and Installed by Prospect Solar, LLC
Modules: (162) Sharp 240 Watt
Inverters: Enphase Energy Micro-Inverters Monitoring: Enphase Envoy
Racking: Custom Light-Gauge Steel Substructure Roof: Hot Rubberized Asphalt
Project Location: District of Columbia, NW
Commissioned: 6-18-2012
Personnel Involved: Jon Hillis, Andrew Skinner, Kevin Graves

Project Description: Prospect Solar was contracted to design and install a photovoltaic array that would be housed on top of a five-story commercial building, raised above equipment located on the roof. Prospect Solar designed a custom light-gauge steel structure on approximately a 10˚ angle to increase sun harvest. The system consisted of (162) SHARP NU-U240F1panels, each at 240 watts, combined for a total array of 39.84kW. The custom steel canopy not only allowed better sun harvest, put also provided cover for the rooftop and equipment below while allowing plenty of cooling for the photovoltaic modules. The array, while one concurrent plane, actually was composed of a 5kW array, a 15kW array, and a 20kW array fed into three separate meters, each with their own micro inverters and generator identification. The end result was the largest privately owned system in DC at that time, while also offsetting a large portion of the five-story buildings energy load. It is important to note that a new warranted roof was installed by Prospect Waterproofing to ensure the roof lasts as long as the solar installation.

PROJECT: Erkiletian: The Asher built by KBR 17 kW Array
Designed and Installed by Prospect Solar, LLC
Modules: (70) Kyorcera 235 Watt
Inverters: (3) Power-One 5000W Aurora Monitoring: Locus LGate310
Racking: Sollega InstaRack 10° (Ballast Mount) Roof: TPO
Project Location: Alexandria, Virginia
Commissioned: 1/7/12
Personnel Involved: Jon Hillis, Andrew Skinner, Kevin Graves

Project Description: Prospect Solar was contracted to design and install a photovoltaic array on top of a new residential apartment complex in Alexandria, VA. The mid-rise apartment complex desired to offset the electricity price of its 206 apartments by adding solar to the flat roof top. The series of (70) Kyorcera 235 W modules are orchestrated around the roof surface making way for HVAC and other building equipment, composing a16.45 kW photovoltaic system. A ballastmounted system was employed in conjunction with (12) anchors that had been designed into the roof structure at its construction. In addition to Prospect Solar being able to maintain the roof warranty, this was a great new construction project, especially since the architect of the facility had been forward thinking about solar, allowing our design and engineering staff to easily accommodate solar access. An additional feature Prospect Solar included, was the Locus Energy Monitoring system. This monitoring system was designed to have a kiosk display in the tenants’ business center that allows the facility to share the system production information.
